Liposhifting in Phoenix, AZ

The Body Sculpting Center offers liposhifting to residents of Scottsdale, Phoenix and the surrounding areas in Arizona.

Liposhifting is a new development that allows for fat transfer without ever removing the fat from the body. The procedure utilizes a new instrument from Buenos Aires, Argentina, which is not too dissimilar in looks from a miniature cheese grater, and, unbelievably, it functions similar to a cheese grater. The tool is called a Micro Graft Fat Cutter (MGFC) and it comes in three different diameters for different body areas.

How Does It Work?

The concept is relatively simple. A patient may have an indentation in the skin, whether it is from injury or a previous liposuction imperfection, or just something that has developed over time. In days gone by, fat would be harvested from one location and injected into the new location. Now, with the MGFC, fat can be broken down and pushed over to the area to be filled. The head of the MGFC has tiny holes all through it that, when moved around in a fat pocket, act as blades to separate the fat. The broken down fat is then released back into the body through the larger hole located at the bottom of the head of the unit. See figure below:

Who Is A Good Candidate For Liposhifting?

This method is ideal for indentations that often occur in the legs or buttocks, since there is usually a readily available supply of fat in a nearby area. This method is not suited for areas like the breast or face, or any place where there is not a nearby fat pocket. In this case, a traditional fat transfer is still the best method.

What Are The Risks?

As with any cosmetic and plastic surgery procedure, there is always some risk involved. However, since liposhifting requires only a single incision and the fat is never removed from the body, risk is greatly reduced.

Liposhifting FAQs

Yes, if a patient is unhappy with the results of their previous liposuction treatment, there is a way it can be corrected. Dr. Philpott and his team are proud to offer liposhifting treatments which correct imperfections caused by an unsatisfactory liposuction procedure. Liposhifting aims to transfer fat from one area of the body to another without excessive cutting or scarring, producing beautifully smooth results with little recovery time.
Following your liposhifting treatment, you will experience swelling, bruising, and tenderness around your treated areas. These side effects are normal and typically resolve on their own within a week or two of treatment. Dr. Philpott and his team will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions to help you manage your discomfort throughout your recovery.
While there is no specific weight requirement to undergo liposhifting, Dr. Philpott and his team recommend patients be within 20 to 30 pounds of their ideal weight prior to surgery. This allows Dr. Philpott to harvest enough fat from one area of the body and transfer it into your desired treatment area.
The average recovery time for liposhifting is about 10 to 14 days. However, patients typically return to work and most normal daily activities after five to seven days. Dr. Philpott and his team will recommend you refrain from high-intensity physical activity and heavy lifting for up to eight weeks following your procedure. If you’re interested to know more about your recovery period, we encourage you to come in for a private consultation with Dr. Philpott today.
Yes, the fat shifted during your liposhifting procedure will stay there for a lifetime. That being said, it’s important to remember that patients can still gain weight in their treated areas following surgery and disrupt their results. In order to maintain the results of your liposhifting treatment, we encourage you to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly.
