Scottsdale Residents Ask: Are Plastic Surgery Consultations Free?

Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery in Phoenix, AZIf you live in Scottsdale and are considering a cosmetic procedure, you may be wondering if consultations are free at The Body Sculpting Center. Dr. Philpott is proud to offer free consultations to all his prospective patients prior to any cosmetic surgery or procedure. Dr. Ethan M. Philpott is a board-certified plastic surgeon and member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

The Purpose of a Consultation

A consultation is a useful tool, both for the surgeon as well as the patient, prior to scheduling any sort of cosmetic treatment or plastic surgery. It allows you ample time to discuss with the doctor whether cosmetic surgery is even the right solution for the problem you’re trying to solve.

It also allows the surgeon unhurried time to spend with you, going through your medical history, listening to what you hope to accomplish and recommending which cosmetic procedure, surgery or med spa treatment may be best suited to help you meet your aesthetic goals.

Once that’s been determined, then there’s time for a two-way discussion about the procedure, what to expect, pre-treatment instructions and plenty of time for you to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have.

The consultation time also gives you the opportunity to get to know the surgeon who’ll be performing the procedure on you. You’ll want to make sure you feel a good connection with them and that the two of you are a good fit for the journey at hand.

How to Make the Most of Your Consultation

Prior to your consultation, it helps to make a list of questions you want to be sure to ask the doctor. It can be helpful to bring photos of your desired results to show Dr. Philpott. Once you’re in the consultation, you may not be able to remember everything you wanted to know. It really does help to write questions down as they occur to you.

Some of the topics you’ll want to be sure you’re prepared to cover should include:

  • Your past medical history
  • The specific changes you want to be made and what led you to this decision
  • Are you a good candidate for the procedure you want
  • How you’d like to feel and look following the surgery; setting realistic expectations is important
  • What the surgery will involve, the type of anesthesia, the size and the number of incisions, recovery time, pre-op preparations, etc.
  • What risks are involved with the recommended surgery or treatment
  • Before and after pictures to give you a good idea of the results you might expect

It’s important to keep an open mind during your consultation. Your doctor will want what’s best for you and in the end, he is the expert. What you think you need or want may or may not be the best option to help you achieve your goals.

Your plastic surgeon doesn’t just work on you but also works with you. You may find your relationship with him becomes ongoing and is not just a one-time event. It’s important you trust your surgeon’s expertise and value the recommendations he offers.

Like the commercial for hair care products used to say; “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.” The same could be said for your plastic surgeon. He will only want to perform the treatments and surgeries on you that will leave you looking your very best.
