Liposuction in 10 Years: What to Expect

Liposuction continues to be among the most popular cosmetic procedures performed each year in this country. When performed correctly and done for the right reasons, it can be transformational.

Despite its undisputed popularity a certain amount of confusion surrounding liposuction. Let’s first get clear about what liposuction is (and is not) intended to do.

Is Liposuction for Weight Loss?

Liposuction was not intended as a remedy for patients who still have a lot of weight to lose. There are limits to the amount of fat that can be safely removed with liposuction.

You should have realistic expectations going into the liposuction treatment, to be sure there’s no disappointment in your results. It’s worth noting that liposuction can drastically improve the shape of your body, but does not change the texture of your skin. If you have cellulite before liposuction, you will likely still have some cellulite after the procedure as well. Liposuction does not significantly improve cellulite issues.

Is Liposuction Permanent?

Liposuction is considered a permanent solution for the area that was treated. The fat cells that are destroyed and removed during liposuction are gone permanently.

However, if you gain a significant amount of weight, the treated area may actually accumulate a bit of fat, but the biggest proportion of the fat will be deposited in other areas of your body.

What Happens 10 Years After Liposuction?

After 10 years, if you have maintained your weight, the results you obtained through liposuction should still remain apparent. It’s important to keep in mind that liposuction has no bearing on the aging process, so skin in the treated areas will still lose a certain amount of elasticity over time, just like the skin on the rest of your body.

How Do I Maintain Liposuction Results?

The best way to make sure you maintain the results from your liposuction procedure is to be consistent in maintaining a steady, healthy weight. This is best achieved with a balanced combination of healthy eating and regular exercise or other activity.
