Get to know Dr. Philpott!

Question 1: What are your most common procedures?

The most common procedures I currently perform are: blepharoplasty, breast augmentation and lift, tummy tuck, and fat transfer to the face and buttocks.

Question 2: What are your favorite procedures and why?

I love them all, but I find facial rejuvenation procedures to be my favorite.  This is because people can bring in pictures of themselves when they were younger and give a very clear idea of what they want; and usually, such an outcome is a realistic goal.

Question 3: What do you like best about being a plastic surgeon?

I love being a plastic surgeon, period.  This is because it is in general it is a very happy specialty where we can make real and immediate improvements in people’s quality of life.  It supplies an immediate and apparent sense of gratification.  It is also a specialty that is always on the cutting edge, and so supplies constant challenges to any practitioner.

Question 4: What are your thoughts on saline versus silicone?

Each have their strong points.  The saline implants move quite naturally, and this is an end point that we in the field have just begun to consider in terms of importance to patients.  Currently, my favorite way to augment breasts is using a textured gel implants above the muscle because it combines some of the best advantages of gel-based augmentation (feel) with the advantages afforded by saline ( i.e. movement)  It hasn’t yet, but I believe the specialty is quickly going to move to that as being the preferred method of augmentation because the results are so natural by different measures.

Question 5: What made you want to become a plastic surgeon?

I would say that I was drawn to plastic surgery for many of the reasons I already outlined.  But it is as challenging a specialty as any other in many ways.  It is constantly evolving, and requires precision and razor-sharp clinical acumen.
