Breast Augmentation 101: Preparing for Your Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation in Phoenix, AZChoosing to get a breast augmentation is a thrilling and overwhelming experience. Between picking out breast implants and scheduling surgery, many patients forget some steps in preparing for their recovery. Dr. Philpott and his team wanted to give you a guide to preparing for your breast augmentation recovery, so all you have to worry about following your procedure is sitting back, relaxing, and healing.

Prep Your Recovery Team

When we say recovery team, we don’t mean you have to get a bunch of medical professionals to help take care of you in your home. Your recovery team could be as simple as a best friend, loved one, and/or family member to help you around the house and take care of some chores while you recover from your breast augmentation. They’ll be very handy to have around, especially if you have children.

Create a Safe Space for Yourself

We encourage all of our patients to set up a little “recovery lounge” for themselves prior to surgery, this way they can immediately go into their safe space to rest and recover once they get home. This lounge area should be a comfortable place where you can recline without having to strain your body or run the risk of rolling over onto your chest. Consider having somewhere to put snacks, medications, entertainment and extra pillows within arm’s reach.

Meal Prep is a Life Saver

Even though you’ll have your recovery team to help you out with your meals, it’s a good idea to get a general meal prep done for about a week or so following your breast augmentation. Consider prepping some nutritious meals with lean protein, vegetables, whole grains and some fruit. Ensuring you have some extra vitamins and nutrients in your body will help with your healing process.

Shop for Button-Ups and Front-Closing Clothing

When it comes to recovering from your breast augmentation, comfort is going to be key. We highly encourage our patients to invest in some button-up shirts or zippered front-closing sweatshirts to lounge in during their recovery period. This will be very helpful when your chest is sore and it’s uncomfortable to lift your arms above your head.

Book Appointments at your Favorite Salon

Okay, we know this one sounds a little weird, but after a breast augmentation, it get difficult to raise your arms to reach your scalp. Calling up your favorite salon to schedule a shampoo and blow dry a few days following your surgery will be one of the best ideas you’ve had. You get the refreshed feeling of having your hair thoroughly washed, and you get a trip out of the house for just a little bit. It’s a win-win!
