What is Abdominal Etching?
Abdominal etching is a liposuction technique that is used to sculpt the abdominal region, and specifically to enhance the definition of the abdominal muscles. With abdominal etching, liposuction is used to remove fat from around the abdominal muscles. In many cases, it will leave the fat on top of the abdominal muscles untouched. By strategically removing fat around the muscles, we can enhance the definition of the muscles and create a more sculpted appearance. For many patients, abdominal etching is a highly effective treatment for achieving a six-pack.
What is the Abdominal Etching Treatment Like?
Abdominal etching is a surgical procedure performed with the liposuction technique and is performed with general anesthesia. During treatment, a small metal tube, called a cannula, will be inserted beneath the skin through a small incision. The cannula will dislodge and remove fat using a vacuum system as we carefully maneuver it around the abdominal muscles. Fortunately, the incisions used for abdominal etching are very small, which leaves minimal scarring.
What Can I Expect After Abdominal Etching?
Abdominal etching requires an initial recovery period of about one to two weeks, during which patients are encouraged to take time off of work and other activities. You may experience swelling, discomfort and bruising in the treatment area. We’ll provide a compression garment that will help manage these symptoms and ensure a smooth recovery. Most patients are fully recovered within two months of treatment, with results becoming fully visible in six to nine months as any side effects fade.
