The Body Sculpting Center welcomes Enrique Leon, M.D., our newest facial reconstruction and plastic surgery specialist. Hailing from Los Mochis, Mexico, Dr. Leon has an extensive cosmetic surgery background. Not only is he licensed in four states, but he has also worked in both private and public practice settings. Most recently he was the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Holy Cross Hospital and Director of the Santa Cruz County Health Department. He is a fellow of many cosmetic surgery associations and holds certificates from a variety of medical boards. In addition, Dr. Leon's fluency in both Spanish and English pose an added benefit to many of the Body Sculpting Center's patients.
As if this was not enough, Dr. Leon is also a decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and Air Force and was granted four prestigious awards during his service. Dr. Leon now lives in Mesa with his wife and three children. With such a wealth of experience, we are proud to call Dr. Leon a member of the Body Sculpting Center team.

Dear Dr. Borsand and Staff!

I wanted to thank you all for taking such great care of me once in February 2002 on my Breast Augmentation and now a second time, March 2004, as I chose a lejour lift and liposuction! I had the best medical experience with your staff over any other place I have been, including my regular family doc! Your staff was so wonderful answering all my questions each time I called (numerous though they were) and they were always willing to help me feel more comfortable about my procedure! Shedding Light On Acne

The sebaceous glands that reside just below the skin’s surface are responsible for the excretion of an oily substance called sebum through a tiny pathway. If this pathway is clogged, the unreleased sebum develops a type of bacteria known as p. acnes. As the sebaceous gland swells from the build-up of sebum and bacteria, it forms a pimple on the skin's surface. This is what is known as acne. Everyone experiences some degree of acne at one time or another in their life. Usually, it occurs during the teens and early twenties but can continue into adulthood. This process can accelerate and become very active over any region of the body, although the most common areas are the face, neck and back.

Although many treatments exist, not all of them work. Now, the Blu-U Light Photodynamic Therapy, also known as the Blue Light, by Dusa Pharmaceuticals, Inc.® has paved the way for medication-free treatment of acne. Here at the Body Sculpting Center our Paramedical Aesthetician, Rhiannon, is doing regular treatments with the Blue Light and has produced amazing results when used in combination with the Levulan® Kerastick®. The downside to this treatment is that patients may experience some stinging temporarily during and after the treatment as well as temporary swelling. Also, patients must avoid exposure to bright light, both indoors and out, on treated areas for a couple of days after treatment. Turn Over A New Leaf...
And Turn Off The Faucet!

    It’s Fall again or the good part of summer, as we Phoenecians like to call it. The monsoons are over and the skies are blue once again. It’s the time of year when the Valley starts to swell with snow birds and the desert economy gets back on its feet. Many residents start to glance achingly at their ski and snowboard equipment in anticipation of the coming season, and many more vow to hit the links and take their handicaps down a couple of notches. While the rest of the country is playing the role of the ant, storing food and preparing for a cold hard winter, we get to play the role of grasshopper and enjoy the promise of a low in the mid 70’s. It is the time of year when we once again realize why we chose to live in the desert.
     To the dismay of many full-time residents, this is also a time when water consumption is at its peak and the Valley loses much of its natural beauty to the importation of non-indigenous plants. Newcomers desperately flood their yards with the intentions of growing an immaculate lawn. Let’s be reminded that the Valley is in the midst of a severe drought and water levels are well below normal. What makes this land beautiful is its natural desert landscape and indigenous species of plants and wildlife. This fall, take a moment and look a few years down the road. Picture the Valley as a bustling commerce and a place for everybody to enjoy and help make that happen. Re-think your intentions to grow a lawn, and turn over a new leaf by planting an indigenous tree instead of a pecan or oak. Facial Rejuvenation With Fat

    Dr. Borsand and myself recently attended the World Congress on Liposuction Surgery in St. Louis. We attended seminars and discussions hosted by other top doctors from around the world. One of the most exciting concepts that we are bringing to the Body Sculpting Center from this conference is the rejuvenation of the face with fat that is transferred from another part of the body. The practice of transferring fat is not new in and of itself; however, what is new is the idea that fat transferred to the face can accomplish equal if not better results than a facelift without the intrusion and discomfort of surgery. At the very least, fat transfer to the face can give patients who have already undergone a facelift a more full and less stretched appearance. Additionally, fat transfer to the face can eliminate the need for a facelift altogether. As people age, their faces lose volume, primarily fat. By re-introducing this lost volume to the face (in three planes: below the muscle, into the muscle and above the muscle) the sagging skin is tightened and a youthful look is restored. Dr. Leon, our facial surgeon, will be visiting Dr. Mark Berman in Santa Monica, who developed this method he calls the ‘Space Lift,’ to bring the concepts and practices of this procedure back to the Body Sculpting Center.

    Who can forget the awe inspiring story of Lance Armstrong, the Texas cyclist who won the battle against cancer and went on to win the prestigious Tour de France an unprecedented six times. Now, Thanks to DC Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona has a cycle race to get Valley residents involved in the tremendous sport of cycling and potentially launch the careers of Valley superstars.
    The inaugural ‘Tour de Scottsdale - Building Families, Building Trails’ event is being held October 17, 2004 and will feature 1,000 cyclists from around the country. You can bet the Body Sculpting Center’s Team Bodynew will be there, too. Dr. Borsand and select staff members of the Body Sculpting Center have opted to participate in the upcoming race in an effort to support the community and experience the feeling of accomplishing a goal as a team outside of the office. The course is sixty-seven miles long and winds through five valley cities and the surrounding Sonoran desert. We invite you to come out and support Team Bodynew.
