Many of you who have visited our facility in the past year or two may have noticed the giant hole in our back yard. And our more recent patrons may have noticed that the hole has gotten bigger. This is due to the fact that we are planning some major additions to the current building. In fact, what started out as a 4,000 square foot addition has turned out to be a 7,000 square foot addition. With this idea of a larger space and through the passage of time, our original focus changed from merely adding more office space to creating our own medical spa. Thus, the direction of this article reveals itself. We are proud to announce the BodyNew MedSpa, a fully featured spa facility to compliment our existing surgical practice by combining laser treatments, facials and organics, injectable treatments (Botox® Cosmetic, Restylane®, Perlane®, etc.), acne treatment, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, and massage therapy all under one roof. Our new facility will, of course, be state-of-the-art. All aspects of the new space have been engineered with the patient in mind. From the moment a patient enters the building to the time they leave, we welcome them to enjoy a peaceful and uplifting energy that is created from the overall design and atmosphere of the space and the staff. We will continue to set ourselves apart, as we do with our surgical center, by understanding that each person who walks through our door is a guest in our facility and by treating people with the respect and appreciation that we are known for. As you may have read in our previous newsletters, each staff member here is hand picked by our management to join our team, including our physicians, to ensure that we have a family working together to care for our patients. Following suit with this philosophy, we would like to introduce our new MedSpa Manager Kristina Miller. Kristina’s cheerful, positive, upbeat and environmentally conscious attitude makes her an integral part of our expanding facility. Having been a director of operations at an existing medspa franchise and with several prior years in the aesthetic skin care field, her experience and character will represent the heart of the new facility. The new facility is slated to open in mid-October 2006, at which time we invite you all to come out and take a tour. visit our website: www.bodynew.com back to table of contents |

Going Green "Going green" is a trendy phrase, and rightfully so. This buzz-phrase is literally changing the planet. As of now, the Body Sculpting Center is setting in motion a shift in its business practice towards being an eco-friendly establishment. That doesn’t mean that we are hugging trees and saving the whales (though we are not opposed). Simply put, this means that we are taking responsibility for the impact that we have on this great earth. The times are changing (like it or not) and we are too. It is past time for us to procrastinate, the future of our existence on this planet requires us to change our old habits. We aren’t just preaching this concept; we are taking action. What started as mere recycling has transformed into a fervent passion. Seeing that we have a platform as a business leader in the community, we wanted to share with you some of the ways that we are contributing to the environment in our new facility from floor to ceiling. For one, solar energy will play a huge part in our future. Thanks to incentives provided by SRP (which are available to everyone), we are installing solar panels during the building expansion to provide power for our facility. Excess generated power will be contributed back into the power-grid for the rest of the world to use. In addition, we will be installing solar tubing throughout the facility to increase the amount of natural lighting. These are both things you can do at home. Check out some of the articles at www.homepower.com and http://www.srpnet.com/environment/solar/home/ for more information. Another “green” addition is the floor. Most of the flooring throughout the new addition will be comprised of a LEED approved biodegradable wood pulp and linseed oil mixture called Marmorette™ from Armstrong. Our MedSpa Manager, Kristina, found and ran tests on this new flooring and it is everything but bulletproof (we don’t think she put it to that test yet). At a mere $6 per square foot installed, you too can add this to your next home project. Visit www.armstrong.com for more information. That takes care of the ceiling and floor, but what about everything in between? As of right now, we are still in the process of choosing the rest of the materials that will go into the construction and design of the new building. However, we do have a few tidbits to share. All of the linens used in the spa will be made from Angel Feather Chamois, a non-toxic, eco-friendly material. The building itself will have dual layers of insulation to provide the most energy efficient space possible. As we narrow down our options and fine-tune the details, we will share them with you. Three's Company... Dr. William E. Shuell, our current fellowship doctor, will be joining the surgical staff at the Body Sculpting Center starting this September after the successful completion of his one-year fellowship program at the end of August. He is board-certified in gynecologic surgery as well as obstetrics and gynecology and has been a practicing doctor for over 20 years who is making the transition to cosmetic surgery. Dr. Shuell will be performing many of the common procedures offered here such as liposuction, breast augmentation and reduction, tummy tucks, injectable treatments (Botox® Cosmetic, Restylane®, etc.). However, given his tremendous gynecologic background, we are proud to announce that Dr. Shuell will be specializing in female genital surgery such as labia reduction and modification, vaginal tightening, vaginal rejuvenation (to restore the appearance, tone and function of genital tissues). All these services are offered ultimately to reduce discomfort and enhance sexual function and self-esteem. Dr. Shuell looks forward to becoming a solid member of the clinical/surgical team at the Body Sculpting Center, helping to enhance the physical appearance and self-appreciation of each patient who seeks his care at our surgical center. Dr. Shuell makes his home in Scottsdale with his wife, daughter, two horses and two cats. Outside of being a doctor, he enjoys snowboarding and travel. Four's A Crowd! To fill Dr. Shuell’s shoes as the cosmetic fellow at the Body Sculpting Center for 2006, we would like to give a warm welcome to Dr. Semone Rochlin. After graduating from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa in 1998, Dr. Rochlin’s training has consisted of an internship at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, a general surgery residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York, and a burn/reconstructive surgery fellowship at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. Currently, she is completing a general surgery residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, CA. Prior to becoming a doctor, she spent several years as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix and Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital. Like Dr. Borsand, she is a native of Detroit. She enjoys photography, scuba diving, horseback riding and collecting antique medicine bottles. |

Is Your Skin Healthy? Our Certified Laser Technician, Tracy, specializes in skin rejuvenation and erasing photodamage. With the extreme exposure that many of us in the valley endure during the summer months, a trip to a skin care specialist is almost a must. · Dermaplaning - Unclogs pores using a gentle scraping. Removes the topmost layer of dead skin and debris revealing the soft new skin underneath. · Chemical Peels - A chemically provoked exfoliation of the upper layers of the epidermis. Usually results in some temporary redness, but has the power to reduce fine lines, acne and rosacea. · Microdermabrasion - A fine spray of sand is used to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin’s surface. · Photorejuvenation - Also known as a FotoFacial, this procedure uses short bursts of intense flourescent light to correct a variety of benign skin conditions. · Laser Hair / Vein Removal - Permanent hair removal and capillary removal through the use of new laser technology that is effective on all skin types. · Thermage (radio frequency facelift) - It’s like a facelift without the surgery. Utilizes radio frequency to stimulate the skin to replenish collagen levels to a more youthful state |
