We usually reserve this space for patients to share great experiences they have had at our center. However, this time around we wanted to share with you the enjoyment and appreciation we receive from our patients. While it may seem cliché to say that our staff members have a common goal of providing our patients with great service, we thought that many people might not realize the profound affect it has on each staff member when a patient leaves our facility with a positive, life-changing experience. Although our team stems from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and beliefs, we are all equally affected by the priceless experience of truly helping patients accomplish their cosmetic goals. Many of you may realize after having visited our office that we are very particular in our patient selection. Through our personal and professional experience, we have come to understand that many of the procedures we offer alter more than the patient’s physical appearance; they alter the patient’s sense of self and outlook on life. We know that not everybody is a good candidate for a procedure and therefore each of our patients are carefully screened during the consultation process to determine not only if they are physically a match for the procedure they are interested in, but also whether or not the patient is prepared mentally and emotionally for the procedure. The whole time a patient spends interviewing us and evaluating our qualifications, we are busy interviewing them and their qualifications. In the end however, it is the patient’s decision as to where they would like to have their procedure. We would like to share how very thankful we are that the majority of the people we find to be well suited as patients also find us to be well suited to perform their procedure. Last but not least, we would like to take a moment to thank all our patients who have referred friends and loved ones to our facility for their procedures. This not only helps our practice grow, but represents to us the ultimate compliment to our hard work and lets us know that we are truly helping people. back to table of contents |

Vocabulary Hyperpigmentation - Overactive melanocytes, or dark patches of skin. Normal skin cells contain cells called melanocytes that produce the skin-coloring pigment known as melanin. In several conditions, the melanocytes are either abnormal or abnormally distributed. Sometimes, the skin contains fewer or less active melanocytes than usual. In these situations, the result is a pale area (hypopigmentation) that does not tan. Elasticity - Your skin’s ability to “snap back” after being stretched. A network of elastin fibers is what helps maintain healthy elasticity. In young skin, elastic fibers spring back very quickly after stretching. As you age, however, this elasticity diminishes. With photoaging, or sun damage, the elastic fibers become abnormally structured and no longer form an organized network. As a result, skin becomes thick, leathery and inelastic. Collagen - A protein in healthy young skin that gives skin a firm texture. As your skin ages, the amount of collagen decreases, the fibers become less organized and the dermis thins. As you expose your skin to sunlight, the collagen bundles may actually dissolve and disappear. If you use topical steroids, the dermis becomes even thinner and the tissues around the blood vessels weaken, and often, atrophy occurs |

Beauty and the Bulldozer Watch out for collapsing pavement and bulldozers as we get our long overdue construction underway. We are proud to announce that we will be adding a full-featured medical/laser spa to our facility for all of our non-surgical patients. Although we currently offer aesthetic services, our new facility will position our aesthetic services in a relaxing spa-style atmosphere next door to our current facility. This new spa facility, along with more treatment rooms, a new surgical lobby, extended staff offices and more will compliment our existing surgical center and help us to offer even more to our patients in the near future. In addition, we are currently accepting résumés for the position of ‘Spa Manager’ from qualified applicants. We are seeking a friendly and experienced manager for our new medical/laser spa that has a background in spa management and skin care services. Resumes may be sent to: Body Sculpting Center |

No Sweat! We are pleased to announce an amazingly effective treatment for excessive perspiration (hyperhidrosis). Millions of people suffer at times from unwanted underarm moisture; some people have this problem constantly, others only at high-stress moments. Wouldn’t it be comfortable and reassuring to know that you could be a bride, give a presentation, sing a song or be in a theatrical production without the extra concern of underarm wetness? How about those ruined blouses and shirts, even dresses and suits? Excessive sweating is referred to medically as hyperhidrosis. This condition can be extremely embarrassing and can have a profound negative impact on one’s personal and professional life. The condition is caused by an abnormally increased perspiration, in excess of that needed for the regulation of body temperature. Before the use of Botox Cosmetic® for hyperhidrosis, the following treatments have been tried by thousands of people: Aluminum Chloride: (DrySol, Maxim, Odaban); the active ingredient tightens the pores of the sweat glands to reduce their output of moisture. This method may be effective for about 40% of patients; even when effective, it is often discontinued due to the side effects of irritating rash and a burning sensation. Perspiration (dress) Shields: These products, usually sewn in or inserted into clothing act as a temporary barrier to moisture penetration, but do nothing to decrease its actual production. Prescription Medications: Certain drugs can reduce sweat production, but can have significant side effects such as dry eyes and dry mouth. What happens and what can patients expect from a Botox Cosmetic® treatment? A series of tiny injections of Botox Cosmetic® are placed in each underarm; the injections are nearly painless, although a numbing cream may be requested. The benefits begin in just one day, though it may take a full week to become effective. Results usually last from between six and nine months. This treatment may be applied to hands, feet and other areas. For more information and to find out if Botox Cosmetic® will work for you, call us at 480-464-8000.
