Patient Spotlight
Our patient spotlight this time around is someone a little closer to home for us. Our Medical Director and Chief Surgeon, Dr. Marvin Borsand, was volunteered for the patient spotlight due to his outstanding results with the Thermage treatment. I sat down with Dr. Borsand and found out first hand what he has noticed personally.
BODYNEWS: How many Thermage treatments have you had?
BORSAND: At this point, I have had two treatments. The first treatment was in October 2003 right after we received the Thermage unit in the office. I had my second treatment about a month ago in June of 2005. Additional results were achieved on my forehead with Botox® Cosmetic.
BODYNEWS: What effects did you notice the treatment having on you personally?
BORSAND: For starters, my skin broke out less and was much tighter. I regained a lot of the elasticity that I had lost over the years. My nasolabial folds (the creases extending vertically from the nose down the sides of the mouth) were thinner and the tissue was tighter towards my ears. We also treated the platysmal bands on my neck. These are the vertical bands that often extend from the chin down to the base of the neck and can become particularly prominent as we grow older. With the Thermage treatment, I noticed a reduction in the prominence of these bands and tighter skin on my neck. Overall, I look less tired.
BODYNEWS: Walk our readers through the procedure. What did it feel like? How long did it take? What kind of recovery time was necessary?
BORSAND: I elected to receive a mild sedation to help tolerate the brief pinpoint bursts from the treatment head. However, I have a lower threshold than most patients. In fact, most patients only require a topical anesthetic and only feel mild discomfort. The entire treatment took about half an hour and another half hour to recover. I had the treatment in the late afternoon and was back to work the following morning.
BODYNEWS: What type of results do you tell patients that they can expect to see after receiving a Thermage treatment?
BORSAND: A definite tightening of the skin which takes about three months to complete. Usually with only one treatment and no downtime. The best thing I could tell a patient is to keep an open mind. The results could be dramatic or they could be subtle.

But That's A Good Thing!
The Body Sculpting Center holds the highest of standards, not only in the quality of our patient care but also in terms of certification. Our facility is fully certified by the Arizona Department of Health Services, which certifies medical health care institutions and providers of medical services throughout the state. With this certification, the Body Sculpting Center is able to protect our patients’ health and safety, while assuring quality service through teamwork in a timely, professional and responsive manner.
Not many other cosmetic practices go through the trouble of obtaining such a certification. The Body Sculpting Center, on the other hand, insists on obtaining this license year after year and holds itself to the same medical standards as major medical institutions such as the Scottsdale Osborn Hospital. With this certification, the Body Sculpting Center is permitted to use general anesthesia at the patient’s request. This anesthetic method is commonly used for major surgeries and we feel it should be an option for the patient.
With this certification, the Body Sculpting Center displays the most professional and efficient standards for its medical practices. Though it is not essential for the Body Sculpting Center to have such a certification, we believe possessing such a credential illustrates the hard work, dedication and compassion our facility endures for its patients.

Summer Delight
Ingredients 1 tsp. vegetable oil |
Heat oil in skillet until hot. Saute onion until translucent, add seasoning and chicken.
Saute for approximately 6 minutes on each side until brown. Less time is required if breasts are butterflied and thin. Remove chicken from pan and keep warm.
Reduce heat and add preserves, vinegar, salt and pepper to pan. Stirring constantly until preserves melt. This is your pan sauce and can be spooned over the chicken and served immediately. This is best served with rice and a salad.
