Patient Spotlight
This issue, hear from our 20K Breast Augmentation Giveaway winner, Teri Galloway, as she describes her experience with the Body Sculpting Center and her breast augmentation procedure:

Dear Dr. Borsand and Staff!

I have to give a HUGE hug and say THANK YOU for the rest of my life to you all! What a great gift you have given me. This was by far, the BEST Christmas gift(s) I have ever received! It's been two weeks since my surgery and I still can't believe it happened!
It seemed like a blur from winning the contest, to having my consultation, and then being scheduled for surgery! I was expecting to have the surgery done in January or February, but I learned during my consultation there was an opening on DEC 23. All I could think was "Oh my god, that's in 3 weeks!" I had a week off of work for the holidays, so I decided to take it!

I can't explain how nervous I was the day of surgery. Even though everyone told me I'd be fine, I still was so excited, nervous and a bit scared. My surgery was quick. In the recovery room I reached up and felt the ace wrap on my chest and I smiled because I knew it wasn't a dream. I went home, but slept for a just a little while (even more excited and nervous now). I couldn't wait to the end of the day to take the ace bandage off and see what my body looked like. I am glad to say that Tylenol has worked wonders for the little bit of pain I did have. I was moving around the following day with the expected aches and tingling. I even wrapped all my kid's Christmas gifts the next day (shhh, don't tell them that).

Within 5 days I was back driving my stick shift and SHOPPING!!! I am thrilled with my new gifts. Even though they will change over the next few months, I am happy with what they look like NOW!

Having a breast augmentation may not seem like such a big deal to some people, but it was for me, and for a lot of other women who entered the contest. I'm grateful you had the contest. Because if you didn't, I would have never written my letter, I would have never been chosen as a finalist, and of course I would have never won.
You should be proud because all of you together make people feel good about themselves and that is the best gift anyone could ever give someone. It was because of you that I can look at myself and feel so good.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart always!
Teri Galloway

Body Sculpting Center is Expanding
Under Construction

Movin' On Up!
And Expanding Our Facility

The Body Sculpting Center is now constructing a 4,000 square foot expansion of its offices. The practice of cosmetic surgery has grown with so many innovations and new modalities for treatment of the body and skin that more space is required for patients, new medical equipment, and of course medical records. In six months, by July 4th 2005, the Body Sculpting Center will have a new O.R. waiting room, a new pre-op holding area, a new central supply area, a new locker room and employee dining room and kitchen. There will be two new doctor's offices, a new photography room, two new examining rooms and a greatly expanded medical records storage area in the basement space. Also in the basement will be a new employee workout area.

Wow, the whole area of cosmetic surgery is dynamic and changing each year and the Body Sculpting Center is growing right along with it. It is exciting to bring the newest advancements to the community and it is fun to plan our new, big, beautiful space. Our patients are welcome to visit and take a tour when the new center is complete. We hope to create a beautiful, spacious environment for state of the art cosmetic surgery. With this new space it will be easier for patients and staff to enjoy the whole process of cosmetic surgery and to get introduced to the new treatments that we bring to the community. See ‘Fun With Fractions’ article on the new Fraxel™ process for skin rejuvenation.

Fun With Fractions?
The Fraxel™ Laser Is Here!

Keeping with our commitment to providing the latest advancements in patient care, we are proud to announce that our facility will be one of the first in Arizona to offer the highly anticipated new skin resurfacing laser from Reliant Technologies® called the Fraxel™ SR.

The technology behind the Fraxel™ laser offers a unique advantage over other skin resurfacing lasers. It relies on a fractional approach to the skin resurfacing process, treating only 20% of the skin through a grid of microscopic lasers, resulting in zero downtime for the patient as well as minimal redness. The Fraxel™ treats wrinkles on the face, neck, chest and hands, age spots, sun-damaged skin and scarring.

The Fraxel™ laser utilizes many built-in safety features as well to protect the patient during treatment. The laser will not fire unless the head of the unit is touching the skin and the skin that it is touching has had the OptiGuide Blue water soluble tint applied to it.

Fraxel™ treatments will be available starting February 1, 2005. For more information, contact our office at 480-464-8000 or visit us online at www.bodynew.com.

Dr. Enrique Leon - Cosmetic Surgeon
Dr. Enrique Leon

In Your Face !
New Minimally Invasive Facial Procedure

Dr. Leon has brought a new endoscopic facelift procedure to the Body Sculpting Center. The doctor uses small cameras and observes the operation on a monitor. What sets this procedure apart is the careful placement of special EndiAptos sutures (barbed polypropylene sutures) under the dermis. These barbed sutures can be tightened to the desired level giving the patient a more youthful look. The result is a quicker facial procedure with smaller incisions and decreased down-time for the patient. As an added bonus, the patient may opt to come in several years down the road when their skin inevitably develops new wrinkles and have the sutures readjusted with little surgical effort. This procedure can be performed alone or in conjunction with an endoscopic facelift or brow lift. When performed by itself, it may only require local and sedation anesthesia.

A similar procedure often referred to as ‘Russian Threads’ suspends these same barbed polypropylene sutures in a fashion that is more similar to an implant, hence depriving them of FDA approval. The procedure Dr. Leon uses for the barbed sutures has similar benefits to the ‘Russian Threads’ but does not treat the barbed sutures as implants, giving them full FDA approval.

The Nelson Report
New Year's Resolutions

Here at the Body Sculpting Center, we want our patients to be healthy and happy both before and after surgery. Did you know there are a few simple things you can do to enhance your health and mood? And what better time than New Year's to make resolutions?
Below are a few suggestions we feel may be beneficial for you to try.

Good luck and best wishes for a happy New Year!

1 Get a good night's sleep. Our body produces melatonin mostly during the hours between 10 pm and 2 am, and light depletes melatonin. We need this to improve our memories, decrease depression and (according to some researchers) fight cancer! So turn off the television, computer and night light-and get to sleep.
2 Change your attitude. Constant stress can increase our cortisol levels, which can eventually lead to decreased overall health and sense of well being. In fact, it is bad for us to even think about stressful situations or situations that made us angry. One study showed that stress management reduced cardiovascular events more than exercise! We must reduce stress when possible, and when we can't, think happy thoughts.
3 Eat your fruits and veggies. They are good and good for you. There are so many contributions I can't fit them all here. Next time you reach for a snack, try some cut vegetables or a piece of fruit. Really try to avoid refined sugar. Your body (and skin) will thank you.
4 Exercise. We can't forget that one! Regular exercise can actually give you more energy. Aerobic workouts are important, but don't forget strength training and stretching and flexibility routines. A few minutes a day will improve your life now and can make you healthier as you age. (If you are beginning a new exercise routine, please check with your primary care doctor.)

Walt Disney Classic 'Lady and the Tramp'

Recipe For Romance
Spaghetti and Meatballs

Our Nursing Director, Cathy, has supplied a spaghetti and meatball recipe guaranteed to get your loved one in the mood for romance.

Meatball Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef
½ lb. ground veal
½ lb. ground Italian sausage
1 small onion, chopped fine
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 egg
Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
1 red pepper roasted, peeled and
chopped
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce

Sauce Ingredients

1 large onion, diced
2 small cloves garlic, minced
2 cups sliced mushrooms
2 tbs. brown sugar
2 tbs. oregano
2 tbs. dried basil or 5 sprigs, finely chopped
2 tbs. olive oil
2 tbs. butter
14 oz. canned chopped tomatoes
3-4 roma tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1 small can tomato paste
1 can chicken stock
salt and pepper
freshly grated parmesan cheese
1 - 1lb. package of spaghetti

Mix together all of the meatball ingredients; you can use your clean hands for this. Roll into golf-ball sized balls. Heat skillet and add olive oil (just a splash). Brown meatballs in skillet.

Heat large pot, add oil, stir in butter and onions. Sauté until soft and transparent (about 10 minutes). Add garlic, stirring constantly as it will burn. Add mushrooms and sauté until softened and excess moisture has been absorbed. Stir in can of tomato paste and cook for about 5 minutes; add can tomatoes, sugar and oregano. If basil is dried, add now. Add chicken stock, salt and pepper to taste. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and add meatballs. Continue to simmer uncovered for about 30-60 minutes or until thickened and reduced.

Follow package directions for cooking spaghetti. Drain spaghetti, return to pot and add 1 tbs. butter. Toss. Plate spaghetti and ladel sauce on top. Add meatballs. Grate cheese over dish. Serve with crusty hot garlic bread. Bon appétit!
