Facelifts, or rhytidectomies, are one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States. In fact, in 2011, over 120,000 men and women had face lifts, making it one of the top five cosmetic procedures performed.

During a facelift, Dr. Marvin Borsand will remove excess fat and tighten your facial muscles. The end result will be a more vibrant, youthful appearance in your face and neck.  Facelift surgeries can help alleviate the appearance of deep creases below your eyes and between your nose and mouth. They can also improve the muscle tone in your lower face if you have an appearance of jowls or a double chin. Sagging in the middle of your face can also be alleviated.

Dr. Borsand will recommend a specific type of facelift, depending on the amount of change you’d like to see. In a traditional facelift, incisions will be made in the hairline at your temples, continuing around your ear to your lower scalp. Fat is sculpted; the underlying tissue is repositioned, and the muscles are lifted before the incision is closed. Other types of facial surgeries include a neck lift or limited incision facelift, which includes a shorter surgical incision.

You can choose to have additional procedures performed during your facelift surgery. For example, you might add a brow lift to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow, or eyelid surgery to perk up aging eyes. Dr. Borsand can also use dermal fillers or fat transfers to fill in facial lines or to plump up lips.

Results of a facelift are permanent and long lasting, but it may take several months for the swelling to go away and the scars to fade.
